Royals Earn 1st Win of Season

The Royals hosted the Coastal Division powerhouse Northeast Generals this past weekend. The Generals came to Lakeshore Arena having won 6 of their last 8 games. Saturdays game was a tight one with the Generals squeaking out a 3-2 victory. Strong play in net for the Royals by Josh Martinez kept it a close one. Martinez had 46 saves and looked promising. Royals captain, and last season’s League leading goal scorer Brandon Corey started off the scoring for the Royals with an unassisted short handed goal in the second period. The Royals second goal was scored by Ryan Webster with assists to Corey and Antonio Lombardo. The Royals pressed hard but were unable to tie the game.
Sundays contest promised to be a good one. The Generals came out strong and fast jumping to a 2-0 lead quickly in the first period. The Royals never backed down and came back to tie the game at the end of the first with goals by Patrick Nowack, assisted by John Onufryk and Brandon Corey , assisted by Connor Seay. The second period was all Royals as Freddy Peters closed the door on scoring enroute to a 36 save performance. The Royals continued their scoring with goals from Brandon Corey, assisted by John Onufryk and Corey Lewis, assisted by Patrick Nowack and Dylan Candleana. The period ended with the Royals up 4-2.
The third period was a back and forth grudge match with the Generals only able to muster enough offence to score once and the game ended 4-3 for the Royals, earning them their first win of the young season.
Next weekend the Royals are on the road in Lewiston Maine and return to Lakeshore Arena for a 3 game homestand against Northeast Division rival Jersey Shore Wildcats. Fri. 10/27 @830pm, Sat. 10/28 @830pm and Sun. 10/29 @ 12pm
